Heatwave to scorch Australia: Millions urged to stay indoors [Video]

A severe heatwave is set to batter both Australia’s east and west with residents in one state warned to stay inside or risk heatstroke.

Parts of central and eastern Queensland have been put under a heatwave warning with the Bureau of Meteorology urging residents to stay in air conditioned buildings.

‘Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell,’ it said.

‘Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.’ 

Weatherzone meteorologist Tim Woebbeking warned Brisbane will see high temperatures in the 30Cs all week, except Wednesday.

‘High humidity and cloud cover will keep nights from dropping below 23C, while making the daytime oppressively muggy,’ he said.
