A new report has hinted that a ‘foreign actor’ may be responsible for the ‘Havana Syndrome’ symptoms which have been plaguing hundreds of US veterans.
Released by the National Intelligence Council on Friday, the document reveals that a small number of officials now believe there is a 50/50 chance an adversary might be behind the mystery ailment – a major development from previous studies.
Overall, the report concludes that it is still ‘very unlikely’ a foreign power like Russia is responsible – in line with previous assessments – but two undefined groups within the intelligence community has started to waver from this previously solid consensus.
Sources told The Atlantic one group which changed its tune was the National Security Agency, and that their revised evaluation was based on ‘intercepted communications’ linked to a ‘foreign actor’.
