Has China Really Hit Peak Emissions?

According to research from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, China, the world’s largest emitter of CO2, might have reached peak emissions.

If so, the world would be in a better position to slow global warming, a key focus of the COP29 summit in Azerbaijan. It could also help offset the impact of nations less interested in reducing emissions, including the United States under a Trump administration

While China’s investment in green technologies has played a key part in reducing emissions, some worry that lower emissions are a side effect of an economic standoff that government stimulus packages are trying to reverse.
