Hartford man charged with manslaughter in hit-and-run crash that killed toddler [Video]

A 30-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with a hit-and-run car crash that killed a 1-year-old girl outside a Hartford laundromat last month, according to Hartford police.

Hartford resident Melvin Daniels has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, evading responsibility involving death and having an illegally-tinted windshield in connection with the death of 19-month-old Camila Elizabeth Ramirez-Carcamo, Hartford police said in a press release.

Camila was killed the night of June 3 outside 36 New Britain Ave. in Hartford after she wandered out the door of Top Kat Laundromat and into the road, police said. Officers responded to the crash around 10:55 p.m. and found the toddler unresponsive in the roadway. She was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where she was declared dead.

Daniels fled the scene of the crash in his black BMW 328xi, police said. Officers found him in New Haven the next morning sleeping inside his car.
