Harris thanks Biden for friendship to Ireland after shock move to end re-election bid and drop out of presidential race [Video]

TAOISEACH Simon Harris has praised Joe Biden’s “friendship” to Ireland as the US President ended his re-election bid.

Biden made the shock announcement that he’s stepping down from the 2024 presidential race this evening.

He caved to pressure after the fallout from his disastrous June 27 debate performance, where his cognitive decline was highlighted during the primetime event.

Confirming his move in a letter on social media, Biden said: “It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President.

“And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
