Habitat for Humanity honors Connecticut veteran volunteers [Video]

The East Hartford project is powered in part by retired military muscle.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — The build is on at what is known as the “Burnside Hope Development.” Just off Burnside Avenue in East Hartford, 10 new eco-friendly homes for 10 new families are taking shape across the 3.2-acre lot, and they are halfway through.

As hammers were swinging and saws were cutting, leaders from the East Hartford Community joined the brass from Habitat for Humanity of North Central Connecticut to honor some veteran volunteers just ahead of Veterans’ Day.

“A large percentage of our volunteers especially our crew leaders, and our contractors — they served so today is about giving back to veterans and acknowledging their service,” said Karraine Moody, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity of North Central Connecticut.
