Greenville County Schools start back on Thursday, district expects nearly 80,000 students [Video]

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Nearly 80,000 students will begin the school year tomorrow in Greenville County. School district leaders tell 7News they are ready to have a great year.

“We are ready to go,” Tim Waller, Greenville County School District Director Of Media Relations, said. “Teachers are fired up. We hope that kids are ready to go. Put them to bed early tonight because tomorrow morning is going to come early.”

The Greenville County School District is the largest in South Carolina. Students in all 86 schools will go back to the classroom on Thursday, August 8th.

District leaders said that one reason they are ready to kick off the near year is due to great teachers, new and old.

“We have filled all teaching positions, so we start the new school year with excellent certified teachers,” Waller said. “We are talking about 6,000 teachers.”
