Greensboro offers plan to deter defecation, urination in streets [Video]

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The city of Greensboro is preparing to crack down on individuals who are defecating in, urinating in or blocking the streets with proposed ordinance amendments that could lead to criminal charges in severe cases.

In a press release, the city cited business owners, employees and city workers’ complaints of people defecating or urinating in the streets, walkways, alleys and at the entrances and exits of businesses. The city said individuals lying, sitting or sleeping in these walkways and streets are obstructing public passage and, in some cases, violating American Disabilities Act (ADA) rules 

City Manager Trey Davis said that current regulations are insufficient.  “We are taking a closer look to find new methods to deter the behavior.”

The ordinance amendments could mean tighter enforcement of current ordinances and even criminal charges to offenders.
