Greene County officials are asking parents to be more wary of online rumors and show more restraint when sharing information online after a reported threat to local schools turned out to be a 2-year-old internet post.
The word of caution and the online rumor mill that prompted it came days after another reported threat at schools in neighboring Orange County was “debunked” by authorities there. In that case, the reported threat turned out to be a TikTok video that included the names of Georgia Title I schools with the same names as Orange County schools on a “target list of schools.”
“I would highly encourage a certain few of the parents, blasting on social media, to check their child’s cellphone,” Capt. Jason Tooley with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook Friday after the Greene County threat was determined to be too old to be a credible threat. “You …
