MANKATO, MN – To address critical gaps in the local childcare system, Greater Mankato Growth (GMG) has joined forces with the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation to develop the Child Care Solutions Activation Plan.
The plan outlines three potential strategies to improve childcare access and support for families and employers in the area.
The first option proposes the creation of the Mankato Area Child Care Association, which would oversee community awareness campaigns, foster collaboration among providers, coordinate resources, and manage the distribution of grant funding.
The second strategy focuses on bolstering the childcare workforce. This initiative would direct funding toward education, internships, stipends, and outreach programs to attract and retain childcare professionals.
The third option involves establishing a shared community space designed to serve underserved areas and offer specialized care not widely available at existing facilities.
While one or more strategies could be implemented, the associated costs are significant.
