ALLIANCE, Neb. (KNOP) – After scorching more than 6,000 acres, the grass fire near Alliance, named the “Schiff Fire,” is now 100% contained, according to Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker.

Shoemaker said in a Facebook post, the containment is a result of better mapping and aerial surveillance.

The fire started Wednesday morning and spread rapidly. His fire department was dispatched around 8:50 a.m. for the fire near County Road 82 and Perkins Road, about 20 miles southwest of Alliance.

The fire then crossed the Box Butte and Morrill County line at Road 140.

Multiple mutual aid resources were requested which included an aerial applicator out of Grant and a Heavy Air Tanker out of Grand Junction, Colorado.

The Heavy Air Tankers have been used in Colorado to fight wildfires in their state.
