With the National Association of Realtors naming Grand Rapids as a top 10 market for housing, a local real estate professional says the year will be competitive.
NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said in a press release that the ten markets on the list share critical characteristics, including affordable inventory, potential for lower mortgage rates and strong economic indicators.
Cherie Smith, an associate broker at Keller Williams Rivertown Collective, which has locations in Grandville, Ionia and Holland, said Grand Rapids has a “trifecta” that makes it a hot market.
“We have jobs in diverse industries, we have the medical industry here, we have universities and then we also have manufacturing,” said Smith. “A piece of that is we have great jobs with great salaries that are competitive at a national level, and the average sales price for a home is actually below the national level.
