This week, Gov. Phil Scott sent a letter to school districts with preliminary information on what property tax increases could look like after the next budget cycle. His administration said even if every school district doesn’t spend another dime from their last budgets, property taxes could rise another seven percent.This is because there’s a $60 million gap in the Education Fund after $69 million was used to help buy down last year’s roughly 14% increase. “We wanted to make sure they were apprised of that , so it wasn’t a shock when the December 1st letter comes out. We just thought it would be better to start the conversation a few months early,” Scott said Thursday.
