Gov. Green, federal and county to offer remarks today for the one-year mark of the Lahaina wildfires | Devastation in Lahaina [Video]

Governor Green announced his plan for moving impacted survivors and their families from FEMA- and state-funded shelters into more permanent and secure housing communities. The Governor Green says the number of almost 7,800 displaced has now fallen to 3,109 or 60% of impacted families.

MAUI, Hawaii (Island News) — Gov. Josh Green and federal agencies will offer an important update on Friday about the Maui wildfire recovery update.

Expected to be present include Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen, FEMA Administrator Bob Fenton, officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.

The update will be one day after the island marked one year since the deadly wildfires took 102 lives and burned down the historic town of Lahaina.
