TULSA, Okla. — The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges is teaching their members how to give back to the environment through a horticulture program.
“I think the program helps people develop a sense of independence it’s a new learning area and they have an area to take pride in their development,” said Bob Young, horticulture instructor.
Young said they recently restructured the program, now it’s more educational.
“My favorite part about the class is working with the members, watching them learn things, asking them questions, them asking me questions,” said Young.
Young teaches the members about Botany, how to use gardening to better their community and how to maintain gardens. Recently, they became a certified wildlife habitat.
Young says the certification is helping the members understand how gardening is something they can do to help the environment.
