Global tech outage affects airlines, media, banking and more [Video]

Large organisations across tech, media, telecoms, banking, retail and airlines have experienced outages and disruption of service due to issues at Microsoft and cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

Microsoft said it had restored cloud services after reports that multiple Azure services and its Microsoft 365 suite of apps, including Teams, were down for users in the central US region.

The tech giant said there were “failures with service management operations and connectivity or availability of services,” and that it had recovered the majority of services after determining the underlying cause.

“A small subset of services is still experiencing residual impact,” Microsoft said.

Major US airlines including American Airlines, Delta and United issued ground stops on Friday morning citing communications issues.

Budget carrier Frontier Carrier had also reported outages that affected operations due to a “major Microsoft technical outage.” Another airline, SunCountry, said a third-party vendor affected its booking and check-in facilities, according to Reuters
