The Preacher Fire was started by lightning on Wednesday, Aug. 28 near Payson.
PAYSON, Ariz. — Gila County has ordered a “SET” evacuation status for some residents near Payson as fire crews prepare for anticipated fire activity.
Fire crews are currently fighting the Preacher Fire, burning 8 miles northeast of Payson since Wednesday, Aug. 28.
“Although these communities are not immediately threatened, the SET notification is a preparatory measure,” Gila County Emergency Manager Carl Melford said in a press release.
