Get up close to the special CF-18 Hornet painted to celebrate the air force’s centennial [Video]

The CF-18 Hornet taking to the skies over London for the annual airshow features a design created by one of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s own. Captain Christine MacNeil, the public relations officer for the CF-18 Demonstration Team, explains the significance of the RCAF tartan on the belly of the jet.

The buzz of a CF-18 zooming through the sky is guaranteed to make you look up, and if one does fly by, look closely at the underbelly. 

To mark the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 100th anniversary, one plane in the CF-18 Hornet fleet got a special paint job designed by an air force technician.

The belly of the jet features a large red maple leaf with the number 100 emblazoned on it to commemorate the  centennial. It also features the RCAF tartan on the underside of the jet on the section known as the false canopy.
