Georgia Southwestern State University’s President Jimmy Carter Leadership Program has had 84 students complete more than 15,000 hours of community service.
AMERICUS, Ga. — As Maranatha Baptist Church prepares to host President Jimmy Carter’s final funeral service in Plains, just down the road in Americus, dozens of students are working to follow in the president’s footsteps in both education and service.
“Just becoming something bigger in a small town was something I could never imagine doing before,” Ware said. “I feel thankfulness and gratitude for being part of this program and being the only university to have a program like this, knowing that we can still spread his name and light in everything he did and continue on his legacy, even if he’s not here with us, but with him and through him.”
