GCS Board approves to rebuild Lindley Elementary [Video]

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Lindley Elementary was approved to be rebuilt as a new construction, the Guilford County School Board of Education decided on Tuesday, July 23. 

The board said they plan on preserving the historic nature of the neighborhood and engaging the community throughout the design process.

The board opted for a rebuild to accommodate enrollment growth. The new construction will cost $76.3 million, saving Guilford County taxpayers over $17 million compared to the $93.9 million renovation cost.

A report from SHP Architects highlighted significant deficiencies in the current building, including safety, structural and mechanical issues, hazardous materials, and code compliance. New construction on the compact 11-acre site will not only save money but also expedite the project by four months, according to the school board.
