LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The hotly-debated Urban Government Center is in its second day of demolition — a sight many community members thought they’d never see.
The property has sat vacant for about a decade, and residents spent years trying to figure out what to do with it.
“This is tough,” Asia Malone, a local resident, said with her eyes glued to the active demolition.
“It’s well needed,” she added. “It took long enough.”
Malone once lived near the center as a kid. Some community members, like Malone, wanted to see buildings preserved like the old Baptist Health Hospital because it’s where her cousins were born.
“So, to see it go, is really sad for them because of the history behind the building,” Malone said.
