Frustrations grow as North Shore teachers’ strike, negotiations continue [Video]

School vacations may be shortened to make up for missed days in class as North Shore teachers continue to strike Thursday in Beverly, Gloucester and Marblehead. The teachers are calling for higher pay, better benefits and safer schools. Gloucester teachers were close to reaching a deal with the school committee before negotiations came to an end Wednesday night.”We’re ready to go back to school. They’re bored. They need an education,” parent Amber Emery said.”It’s frustrating, especially when if they would just get us the value we deserve and get us back in school, we wouldn’t be in this situation,” Gloucester teacher Jennifer Grant said.Paraprofessional wages continue to be a major holdout between the school committees and teachers’ unions.Jennifer Grant is a first grade teacher at West Parish Elementary in Gloucester.
