ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The annual Veteran parade will have some changes this year with new organizers.
The Abilene Freedom Foundation is organizing the event fully this year, bringing new elements and making the parade one part of a day full of honoring those who served. This year, the event got a refresh, slightly changing the name from just Veterans’ Parade to ‘Freedom Veterans Parade” to include the foundation.
With the Abilene Freedom Foundation, Kelly Jay said the Abilene community is rich with veterans, so it was enticing to bring more excitement into the event.
“We have several veterans here, that all businesses that live here and they live in Abilene because they love it, or we love the veterans right back. So, when we kind of refreshed it a little bit, and we just wanted to bring excitement into it, we decided to give away money,” Jay said.
