DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The Delaware County Health Department is hosting a free mammogram screening next week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“We are promoting the awareness and the importance of screening for early detection of breast cancer,” said Rasheeda Williamson with the health department.
She says the free screening takes place Friday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their Wellness Center on 151 West 5th Street in Chester.
Williamson says it’s important to have events like this in predominantly Black communities like Chester.
“We recently did a community health improvement plan and in some of that research we saw that breast cancer mortality was impacting Black women more because of that late detection or not knowing there’s screenings in their neighborhood,” she said.
