TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Police Department is offering free gun locks at several city library locations to expand gun safety efforts.

“It’s part of our ongoing efforts to make Tampa safer together by promoting safe gun ownership, and firearm safety,” Cpl. Gig Brown, Corporal for Community Engagement with Tampa Police Department. “It’s keeping them out of the hands of those who should not have those. Not necessarily just bad guys, we’re also talking about our kids around the house.”

Free gun locks can always be picked up at any district office or police headquarters through the Tampa Police Department’s “Project Locked and Unloaded” initiative.

TPD has now expanded the program by offering free gun locks at four libraries in the City of Tampa including the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library, the Jan K. Platt Regional Library, the North Tampa Branch Library, and the New Tampa Regional Library.
