Frederick volunteers lead relief drive to help Hurricane Helene victims in North Carolina [Video]

FREDERICK, Md. (DC News Now) — Hurricane Helene has devastated western North Carolina. But some big-hearted residents of Frederick have organized to help in any way they can.

County residents gathered before sunrise Friday on their goodwill mission to have a caravan filled with supplies head south.

Michele Payton put out the word on social media.

“We have people in our community bringing truckloads of stuff to drop-off locations,” Payton said. “It has just been so humbling the way everyone came out to support this.”

Daniel Anderson is an automotive mechanic in Frederick and will be repairing trucks disabled from Helene’s wrath.

“It’s still pretty bad down there,” Anderson said. “There are still a lot of people that need help. As soon as I found out, I was able to get hooked up with this outfit to help tow some supplies down there.”
