Fox bites person in New Braunfels and tests positive for rabies virus, health officials say [Video]

SAN ANTONIO — A fox found in New Braunfels tested positive for the rabies virus Wednesday, according to a press release from public health officials. 

Comal County Public Health officials say a fox bit a person on Sunday and was then tested for rabies. The test kit was sent to a laboratory in Austin and the results were received Wednesday, which confirmed the fox tested positive for the virus. 

Health officials say rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals including humans. The disease is commonly transmitted when an infected animal bites another mammal. 

This incident is the 23rd confirmed rabies case in Comal County in 2024, officially marking this as the highest number since 2018. The Comal County Public Health office is working with local law …
