Fourth-grade students working with seniors at nursing home [Video]

Fourth-grade students at Clayton’s Meramec Elementary School combined exercise with community service.

ST. LOUIS — Fourth-grade students at Clayton’s Meramec Elementary School combined exercise with community service, Thursday, with a holiday walk-about.

Accompanied by faculty members and a student resource officer, they walked down the street, along Brentwood Blvd., and beneath the Forest Park Parkway ramp to Bethesda Barclay House, a high-rise that is home to many Clayton retired seniors.

There, students broke-out the holiday carols, including Frosty the Snowman, I Have a Little Dreidel, Here Comes Suzy Snowflake, and Hot Chocolate.

Cari Lowry is a Clayton physical education teacher who has shared her love for walking with her students.

“This is also our service-learning project,” said Lowry. “We’ll also be singing at our administrative building. This year we are combining physical education with the arts.”

Nicholas Stanley was an enthusiastic participant.
