A woman who rescued a dog from the euthanasia list has delighted the internet by taking him in alongside his beloved stuffed animal—the only thing he had with him when he was found on the streets.
Brooke Reese, a senior at Baylor University in Texas, fostered Squishy the pit bull mix from a shelter on November 17, and she couldn’t leave behind his favorite stuffie. She discovered that 2-year-old Squishy was “the first on the kill list” because it was thought at the time that he might have cancer. Reese, 22, couldn’t possibly let this sweet pup lose his life, so she took him home to take care of him (and the stuffie, named Stitch).
The stuffie has become a huge comfort for Squishy, with Reese telling Newsweekthat he “walks with it, cuddles it, and sleeps with it.” After a while, she noticed how worn and shabby the toy looked …
