Fort Smith restaurant hosting benefit to support Bricktown Brewery staff after fire [Video]

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A restaurant in Fort Smith is stepping up to help employees of Bricktown Brewery after a fire damaged the popular establishment.

Destiny Cameron, general manager of AJ’s Oyster House and Fort Smith native, was going to drop her kids off at school when she noticed smoke coming from Bricktown Brewery.

“We just happened to drive down there and set eyes on the building, and we’re like, we have to do something. How do we do this?” Cameron said.

Her initial reaction quickly led to a call for support that has resonated across the community.

AJ’s announced plans for a benefit event to raise funds for Bricktown staff who are now without work or income.

The event, scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 8 p.m., will feature live music, a silent auction, and donation boxes.
