Former Secret Service agent talks security ahead of Donald Trumps Harrisburg visit, assassination attempt [Video]

(WHTM) — A former Secret Service agent gave insight on the Service’s lack of preparation and negligence that led to former President Donald Trump nearly being assassinated in Butler, Pa.

Lance Cunningham is a former Secret Service member who has been assigned to protect numerous presidents and public figures, including Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and Pope John Paul II. He now works in private security consulting and has protected Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, members of Harvard University, NASCAR drivers, and the Royal Family. His purpose is to keep people safe, and when he saw what transpired in Butler, he was horrified.

“I would have to say that I’m aghast,” Cunningham said. “There were some incredible, profound, and frankly, negligent omissions.”

Cunningham blames the near-tragedy on a lack of training, lack of pre-planning with local law enforcement, too few people on the Trump detail, and the inability to communicate about the shooter.
