ROCHESTER, Minn. – An unexpected rise in land acquisition costs is making the current Rochester Technology Campus a less financially viable option for the future sports facility.
After entering a purchase agreement with the owners of the land, Industrial Realty Group, earlier this year, the city was informed of a higher price tag for the desired land. Community Development said the costs rose three times higher than what the city initially understood.
“They felt like there was a gap between what we were purchasing the land for and what they felt like they could sell the land and what the land was worth. We were always working to close that gap,” said Interim Deputy Director, Ryan Yetzer.
However, the IBM campus is not officially off the table and the city is still considering two other locations.
