Flint still feeling fallout from last weeks ransomware attack [Video]

FLINT, MI — The city says it’s working closely with cybersecurity experts and the FBI to recover from what officials have described as a ransomware attack on Flint’s computer network last week.

The city said in a news release on Tuesday, Aug. 20, that the ongoing outage that began on Wednesday, Aug. 14, continues to affect internal operations and has left it without the ability to accept online or credit card payments.

City Council committee meetings that were scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 21, have been canceled due to technological issues tied to the outage and staffing issues.

“The city of Flint has restored some critical functions internally, but continues to ask for residents’ patience while the billing system remains offline,” the announcement says. “We want to emphasize that there will be no late fees or water shutoffs at this time.
