First women aged 55 and over move into social housing in Melbourne [Video]

Construction of the 96 social housing homes, a partnership between National Affordable Housing and Pace Development Group with $50 million provided by the Victorian Government, began in May 2023.

The “missing middle” a term used by the Retirement Living Council, is the fastest-growing group of people experiencing homelessness in Australia.

It is the subject of a new Netflix documentary Under Cover, narrated by Margot Robbie, which reveals confronting stories of women facing housing insecurity.

It also highlights the private sector response through the work of Housing All Australians and its corporate partners, which was published by The Weekly SOURCE last Tuesday, in the story on Uniting WA’s Wyn Carr House in Fremantle, 19km southwest of Perth’s CBD.

The new one, two and three-bedroom homes in Mount Waverley are modern and energy efficient, meaning renters will be able to save on energy bills. The project has also been designed to cater to the over-55 cohort with features including mobility scooter parking.
