First time, first-year educators receive grants to help fund classroom supplies [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – School is almost back in session for the upcoming school year, and teachers are making the final touches to their classrooms. However, for many of those educators, the materials in their classrooms are paid for out of their own pockets, not the schools.

A recent study found that teachers spend on average $673 on school supplies for their classroom per year.

Monday at Jefferson High School, 70 new teachers joining the Sioux Falls School District received grants to help fund their classrooms for the upcoming school year.

After consulting with multiple focus groups and teachers over ten years ago, board members from the Sioux Falls Public Education Foundation discovered a way they could better support teachers.
