First Phosphate’s CEO, John Passalacqua joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company taking a major step toward securing a robust North American supply chain for lithium iron phosphate batteries through a strategic partnership with GKN Powder Metallurgy, a global leader in iron powder production. This collaboration follows the successful integration of First Phosphate’s magnetite into GKN Hoeganaes’ proprietary Ancorsteel melting process, leading to the creation of high-purity iron powder.
This high-purity product serves as a precursor for LFP cathode active material, a critical component in batteries for the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage industries. The partnership will see First Phosphate incorporate Ancorsteel into its upcoming iron phosphate precursor and LFP CAM production facility in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Quebec, aiming for an annual production capacity of 400,000 tonnes by 2032.
GKN Hoeganaes is set to scale its operations at its Gallatin, Tennessee, facility, already the world’s largest steel atomizing plant. …
