First newborn surrender in Ohio baby box [Video]

LEBANON, Ohio (WXIX) – A newborn girl was surrendered in a baby box at a fire station in Lebanon on Monday.

The City of Lebanon Communications Center received an alarm from the Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station 41 around 3:25 p.m., according to the Lebanon Division of Police.

First responders found a newborn girl in the baby box and she was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, police say.

“Nerves definitely went up a little bit and it was just kind of the reality setting in of, ‘Okay, yeah, we’ve talked about this for over a year now and it’s here, it’s time,‘“ described Lebanon Division of Fire Chief Ryan Dipzinski. “The guys stepped up and did their job and did what they had to do.”

This was the first baby surrendered in a Save Haven Baby Box in Ohio, according to the organization.
