First-Ever UAS Hack Challenge Takes Place in Rome | News [Video]

ROME, N.Y. — The first-ever UAS Hack Challenge is taking place in Rome this week at the new Orion NTROPEE facility. 

Over the next five days, college students from the New York area will be at Orion learning from industry experts about unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

Throughout the week, the students will collaborate with the experts to address cybersecurity challenges. 

Eric Thayer, chief engineer at AIS, said students will be trained on how to evaluate the security of UAS.

Thayer said, “We give them two days of training. We give them some education on UAS basics, cybersecurity basics, teach them how to talk with these things using the RF radios. Teach them how to do software analysis, vulnerability analysis against the drones and the UAS platforms.”

The UAS Hack Challenge gives students the opportunity to gain skills and learn what it is like to have a security-related career.
