BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – First Christian Church has provided a free community Thanksgiving meal in collaboration with State Street United Methodist Church for several years now.
“We have done that through a number of ways, dining in and carry out. But we’ve also done and been very focused on deliveries and partnering with other organizations. So this year, we are partnered for deliveries to the housing authority of Bowling Green, Barren River Area Safe Space,” said Melissa Rudloff, coordinator for the First Christian’s community Thanksgiving meal outreach. “We will also deliver meals to residents of Bowling Green Towers, and then we will also partner with Meals, Inc, and deliver warm Thanksgiving meals to people.”
Food insecurity continues to be a growing issue in the nation, jumping 0.7% between 2022 and 2023.
Though the church’s meal, from the turkey to the pumpkin pie, is funded entirely by donations from volunteers, church congregation and community partners.
