FINDLAY, Ohio (WTVG) – Findlay City Schools is embracing its growing community through its “English Language Learners” program. Making every child feel welcomed and supported. School leaders said they won’t let language be a barrier for any of their students.
“These children deserve an education like anybody else. And you never want somebody sitting in the back and not engaging because they don’t understand the language. So we want them to, we give them the English language instruction so they will soon be able to access the general curriculum and be able to participate with their peers,” Crystal Whipkey, an English Language Development teacher at Whittier Elementary said.
At Whittier Elementary alone, there are 97 students who participate in the English Language Learner (ELL) program, coming from 17 countries and speaking 10 different languages out of the over 250 students the school serves in the program.
