FEMA visits Southbury to assess flood damage [Video]

SOUTHBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s been 11 days since severe flooding devastated Southbury and several other neighboring cities & towns.

On Thursday, crews from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were on the ground in Southbury touring impacted areas, making assessments to send to President Joe Biden by the end of the week.

“We’re here basically to support the state in making the case to FEMA and then to the president that the damages that happened here may warrant FEMA federal support,” Lynn Levine, an employee of FEMA Region 1’s Interagency Recovery Coordination (IRC), said.

Southbury officials estimate $100 million dollars in damage was done to municipal buildings alone. That doesn’t include the many homeowners still picking up the pieces and processing the loss while wondering what help they can get.
