FEMA approves rebuilding two Lafourche Parish schools three years after Ida [Video]

Two schools in Lafourche Parish will finally be rebuilt after being destroyed by Hurricane Ida in August 2021.Bayou Boeuf Elementary and Golden Meadow Middle schools are set to be demolished and rebuilt using funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent Jarod Martin told WDSU that the school district has been fighting with FEMA to get those projects off the ground and done right.”These two particular sites were extremely frustrating because we could not come to terms on, frankly, agreeing what was damaged,” Martin said. “We don’t want to just put back what was there before. We want to put something that is more hardened, that is better prepared to handle tomorrow’s storms, and for Bayou Boeuf, that includes elevating it some five or six feet to make sure that it doesn’t flood again.”Martin said Bayou Boeuf took on three to four feet of water as Ida roared …
