DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) – Officials with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency say that the election system has never been more secure, but at the same time, the threats they’re seeing have never been more complex.
Jen Easterly, Director of CISA, said, “Whoever you vote for, you can have confidence that your vote will be counted as cast.”
Easterly says that voting machines are not connected to the internet, and 97% of Americans of registered voters will have a paper record that they can verify when they cast their ballot. She says since 2020, elections officials across the country have increased safeguards, both physical and cyber, to protect them from being compromised.
“These includes pre-election testing of equipment and post-election audits to ensure accuracy,” Easterly said.
Here in Iowa, officials maintain that the election will be secure. The state requires photo ID and uses paper ballots.
