FDA warns against eating contaminated oysters from one Cape Cod bay [Video]

The FDA is warning against selling or eating oysters from one Cape Cod bay, as they may be contaminated with a bacteria that can cause life-threatening illness.

A recall has been issued for oysters harvested between July 1 and 18 from two lease sites in Lewis Bay, which is located on the south side of Barnstable and Yarmouth, the FDA said in a press release. The oysters may be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni, which can cause serious illness.

Restaurants and food retailers are advised not to sell or serve oysters that are part of the recall, and consumers are advised against eating these oysters. Anyone in possession of oysters impacted by the recall should dispose of them, even if they seem fine. Food contaminated with the bacteria may look, smell and taste normal, according to the FDA.
