The FBI issued a new warning urging American smartphone users to refrain from texting or sharing sensitive information following significant breaches in U.S. telecommunications.

The warning affects users of both iPhones and Android devices, highlighting the need for increased vigilance regarding personal data security.

Recent hacks have compromised major telecommunications providers, including AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, jeopardizing the data of millions of Americans. As a result, the FBI is now alerting users about the risks of sending unencrypted messages, particularly between different iPhones and Androids.

“It’s important to find another way to transfer that information,” said cybersecurity engineer Troy McCartney. He pointed out that one effective measure is end-to-end encryption, which he likened to “putting a lock on a letter.”
