Father and Son, 15, Rescued After Getting Trapped on Rock While Boogie Boarding [Video]

A 15-year-old boy and his father were rescued after getting stuck in strong currents while boogie boarding in Oregon over the weekend.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a bystander spotted the father-and-son duo and reported “seeing the pair drifting north before losing sight of them” at Indian Beach.

In a press release shared with PEOPLE, the Cannon Beach Fire District said that emergency crews arrived at the beach at approximately 12:30 p.m. It took roughly 12 minutes to make visible contact with the pair, who were stranded on a rock on the north end of the beach.

Due to the location of the boogie boarders and the ocean conditions, the U.S. Coast Guard was called in to assist the local fire department.
