Farmers market project grant helps local farms with marketing, business needs [Video]

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – There are over 40 farmers markets in the state of Nevada, including local farmers markets in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Dayton, Fallon, Fernley, Gardnerville, Incline Village, Minden, Stagecoach, Winnemucca and Yerington. Nevada farmers markets are joining markets across the country in celebrating National Farmers Market Week from August 4-10.

Claire Holden, Northern Nevada coordinator for the Nevada Farmers Markets Project, stopped by Morning Break to talk about the importance of shopping local and supporting our area’s farmers.

Farmers markets foster shared values between community members and farmers which can work to create a more fair and sustainable food system. This community focus has been most visible during recent times of crisis and uncertainty as market managers innovate to continue essential operations for the farmers and shoppers who depend on them.
