Tahlequah, the mother orca famous for carrying her dead calf on her back in 2018, lost another calf on New Year’s Eve this year, prompting an outpour of mourning and support.
The Center of Whale Research and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) witnessed the mother carrying her deceased child on her nose across Puget Sound.
Scientists could not confirm the cause of death as of now, as was told by them last Thursday at a press conference. The scientists plan to conduct a follow-up once the whales’ movements allow it to take place.
