There’s a monthlong effort underway right now across Massachusetts to help change the way society views and responds to homicide victims and their families.Massachusetts was the first state to create Survivors of Homicide Awareness Month.In reverence of the month, St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury held its annual Community Healing Service event, where family members of homicide victims shared their stories.”This month provides a dedicated space around the holiday season for survivors to gather in community and celebrate and honor their loved ones,” Natasha Carrington said. Carrington’s son, Darrion, was shot and killed on Dorchester Avenue while waiting for a takeout order.Darrion’s life was taken 16 years ago at the age of 18.There hasn’t been an arrest in his case.
