Famed singers cause of death revealed 1 year after her death [Video]

LONDON — Officials have released the exact cause of death of Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, saying she died because of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma.

Her death certificate shows a respiratory tract infection also contributed to O’Connor’s death at her home in London on July 26, 2023, according to the Guardian. O’Connor was 56 years old when she died. A coroner ruled in January that O’Connor had died of natural causes but did not provide specifics.

O’Connor gained worldwide fame in 1990 with the release of her rendition of Prince’s song “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which rose to No. 1 in the United States and several other countries. More than 3.5 million copies of the single were sold worldwide in 1990.

It earned her nominations for record of the year, best female pop vocal performance and the Grammy Award for best music video, short form at the 1990 Grammys.
